ultrasoundimg“As long as I have been in the Biomedical Field, I have rarely seen a company as committed to empowering the in-house Biomed as GMI. GMI is unique among the ’good guys’ in several important ways.

  • First:
GMI is totally focused on a single, niche of the diagnostic imaging market:
    ultrasound and nuclear.
  • Second:
GMI possesses more technical knowledge about diagnostic ultrasound and nuclear
than any other third party, and often more than the original manufacturers.
  • Third:
GMI’s parts inventory is the most complete in the industry. Our ability to repair and warrant
circuit boards, monitors, power supplies and peripherals is state-of-the-art.
  • Fourth:
GMI’s ability to repair ultrasound probes (including TEEs) is unequalled in the industry. We also have on ISO-9001 quality management system in place for probe repair.
  • Fifth:
GMI’s commitment to making the in-house Biomed successful is demonstrated by their reasonably priced training, free technical support, and hero kits which have no restocking fee.

The first step in becoming successful in the increasingly costly and restrictive diagnostic ultrasound service business is to become trained. Our training courses are your ticket to a long and successful journey. Whether you want to enhance your career, increase your earnings, save your hospital money, or just provide reliable service, this is the place to start. You can be assured of that.

GMI will be there as much or as little as you need. Our one goal is your success. Working with the sales representative for your area, I look forward to talking with you about your plans and goals, and helping put together a strategy to achieve them.”

Nuclear Imaging Preventive Maintenance

A Preventive Management consists of:

  • Inspection of mechanical systems.
    • Lubrication and adjustments as necessary
      • Standard calibration of imaging system.
        • Update PMT gain
        • Energy correction
        • Intrinsic uniformity correction
        • Inspection of collimator for defects
  • If defect shows up on extrinsic flood, then new extrinsic flood uniformity is performed
  • Extrinsic flood source strength needs to be within specification for flood correction to be performed
  • COR (center of rotation) specifications are checked and calibration is performed as needed.
  • Processing and Acquisition workstation maintenance.
    • Defrag and Check-disk performed if Windows based
    • Back up of both
    • General cleanup of system to include vacuuming and wipe down.

Review of historical QC data is performed to baseline pre-existing performance issues prior to Preventative Management. If any exist after standard procedures, then the customer is informed and corrective maintenance is scheduled as necessary.

Tech Tips

  • 22/33 AFP Replacement

If and when you have to replace any front end boards for the iU22 or iE33, you will have to remove and replace the Acquisition Front Plane (AFP). Our technical staff has run in to this issue a number of times and we have decided to impart our knowledge on to you.

The issue at hand is the removal and installation of the AFP board. IF you have worked with this board before, you know that it is not complicated. However, there lies the problem. Moving through this replacement too quickly can cost you thousands of dollars and hours of frustration. Generally, most of the issue arise during installation. Use the checklist to ensure the proper operation.

Uninstall

  • Remove all the screws from the AFP.
  • Make sure the tabs for the cosmetic panels are out of the way.
  • Lift the UI assembly to it’s highest level.
  • Remove all 4 power connections from the AFP.

Install

  • All boards should be seated and in the proper slot.
  • All 4 board retention tabs should be secure.
  • All 4 power connections should be secure.
  • Starting from the top, slide the AFP down on to the locking mechanism.
  • Carefully slide the locking arm down. You should need no more than 7-10lbs of pressure to lock it in place. If the locking arm does not close with minimal effort, lift up and check the above items.
